Prideful Limits
"Pride"
G1 Bay Stallion
Born Y8
Height: 16.0 hh
BHOF Shiver Me Timbers x Trust Limits
Horse Pictured: Goldencents
Personality: Pride is fully stallion, pushy and mostly just plain hard to handle. He doesn't seem to like humans much, and would prefer to be out on pasture all day, if he could. He really hates ground work, and after more than a few minutes he'll start acting out - petty things at first, like nipping and stomping, but it'll escalate if he isn't left alone. If you push him even further, he'll fight back, and that's never a good scenario. We think the reason that he puts up with people at all is because he loves being on the track. Or rather, he loves running on the track. Maintenance jogs tend to piss him off, and he'll fight once it goes past a typical warm-up period and he realizes he's not going to be allowed to go faster. He'll try to break gait, and it can just overall turn into an unpleasant situation. For the most part, though, when he's actually being worked he listens well and does what he's told. He's started to associate pre-work events with running, so if he can tell something good is coming, he'll be in a pretty great mood. This big-muscled stallion seems to prefer women to men, but he'll easily plow right over a girl that doesn't know how to handle such a domineering horse.
After having raced for so many seasons, Pride loads easily at this point. He can get a little antsy if he has to wait too long for the other horses to load, so it's preferable that he loads late. When the gates spring open, Pride is finally given his reward for good behavior, and he springs into action with no urging whatsoever. He heads right to the front, not taking no for an answer. He's not a suicidal front runner, and will drop back if there's a major challenger unwilling to give in, but he definitely prefers to lead by a couple of lengths. In reality, he'd just like to run full-out from the get-go, but his jockey is able to talk some sense into him. He makes his move around the last furlong, though if other horses start encroaching on his space he might need to be let go earlier or he'll just waste energy fighting for his head. Finally given his head, this tough horse will put his long legs into action and hopefully come out with the win.
